Welcome
to
Virtual
Air
Canada!
So
you
have
just
received
your
welcome
letter
to VAC.
Great! But
now
you
want
to
jump
into
the
pilot
seat
and
get
in
the
air.
Well
it's
not
as
hard
as
you
think!
At VAC
we
are
a
very
simple,
yet
very
realistic
airline!
Let's
start
with
the
basics.
You
know
your
pilot
ID,
for
example
VAC6058.
You
also
know
your
password.
For
example
12345.
And
you
also
know
your
hub!
For
example,
Montreal
CYUL.

| 1) |
Find your name on the roster! Go to your hub through the Crew Operations link on the top menu. From your hubs webpage, click on "Crew Roster" in the top left. Now scroll down and find your pilot ID. Next click on the "VIEW" link to the right to open your pilot logbook and profile. |
| |
|
| 2) |
Your logbook contains all of your profile and flight information. Here you will find your stats and pilot information. The Flight Log will list all of your flights flown. Check the Pilot Handbook for more information on how to read this page. Now take a few minutes to just browse your logbook. |
| |
|
| 3) |
Now you need some airplanes! From the top VAC menu, click on "Our Fleet", and then "Current Fleet". You are now in the fleet department! Let's download one aircraft as an example. On the fleet page, click on the link for the "Dash 8-100", which is an image. You will be asked to enter your pilot ID. (Only enter the digits as the VAC is already there for you) Once done, click the Dash 8 link again. Scroll down to where it says file download, and choose your Flight Sim version. Now click on the "DOWNLOAD" link. Once the file has been saved to your computer, you will have to follow the installation instructions included with the downloaded file. Be sure to check to ensure the aircraft is installed before continuing. |
| |
|
| 4) |
So you want to start flying already? We're ready to plan our flight. Return to your hubs main page. Now click on the "Flight Bids" link. Select your Pilot ID from the drop-down menu, type in your password then click the ‘Continue’ button.
Time to select a flight. In Part I, click on the link to load the flight schedule interface. In the new window, enter the three letter origin and destination airports, as well as the date. Now click "Display Flights". A new timetable window will pop-up, listing all of the flights for that route. You must select a flight operated by Air Canada or Jazz, has 0 stops, and uses an aircraft type that you are qualified to fly (see Ranks page). If no flights fit this, select another route. Otherwise, enter the flight details exactly as show, into Part II of the bidding page.
When entering data into the bidding page, be sure of the following:
Please use CAPS
Fill in the date
Enter the flight number digits
Enter the aircraft code
Enter the 3 letter To and From airports
Enter the 4 digit departure and arrival times (do NOT use the ":" or "+" signs)
Enter the number of stops
Select the airline operating the flight
Click "Submit Bid"
If the system accepts your bid, it will present you with the Flight Assignment. Take a look at the flight assignment details given, and if you are happy with them, click "Accept Assignment".
Now go to the Flight Assignments page on the left hand menu. From the Flight Assignments page you can view all of the flights that you have requested for assignment. Find your pilot ID to see the flights assigned to you. Now click "Print" to display your Flight Release and print if desired. (A Flight Release is sort of like a Flight Plan) If you change your mind about a flight and would like to cancel it, simple press the "Delete" button next to the flight assignment. |
| |
|
| 5) |
I'm in the cockpit, but now what? Load your aircraft, and go to your origin airport. Begin the flight with the engines shut down at the terminal. Set your aircrafts ATC callsign to the assigned callsign from your Flight Release. Load the weather if you like. Set the day and time of Flight Sim to the day and time of your flight, but set your clock at least 10 mins ahead of your scheduled departure time. Push-back/Start up as close as you can to the scheduled departure time, and record your actual push-back/start up time. Now do your thing and fly! Once you land, record your shut down time. Also figure out your total flight time in decimal format (.1 = 6mins). Don't forget to consider time zones! |
| |
|
| 7) |
Now it's time to file your flight report. Go to your hub (Crew Base). Click on Flight Reports on the left menu. Log-in. Choose your flight by clicking "Report", and enter all of the information. Now press submit! Your flight report will be added to the database and sent to management for review. You will be automatically promoted if you have the proper requirements. If you make an error in your flight report, please complete the form in the Crew Services section. |
